My experience learning English at the university

Hello everyone, how everything is going on?
Ok, today I have to talk to you about my experience learningn English at the university because I think our teacher wants to feel fine with himself.

I started learning English a day, I don't remember waht day was that, but it was or a wednesday or a friday, and I felt lost because it was my first time in this place, that is the west "Sede" of the Medicine Faculty of the University of Chile. Well, I met that day a teacher that was replacing our titular teacher because he was in England assisting a course, so it was a little bored, and I almost fell asleep. She would replace him 2 weeks, and after that English became more interesting and entertaining, because I find him funny. The activities we had to do were always made in pairs, and not always were entertaining. I remember that one of the first things we did was learn about body parts names in English, so, me at least studied for English for the first time in many time. After that I vaguely remember about doing medical English guides for a while and doing others posts.

Once, we had a visit from a researcher that talk to our goup and another one about something about a neuron regeneration protein, that could help in rehabilitation of patients with brain damage. We were supossed to have a test or something about that, but it never came. After that, more blogs and we started doing listening test as preparation for the final test. We recently did two test test for the final test, and too have an oral interaction test, that it went fine for me at least.

Ok people, wishing this being my last post in a while I say goodbay to you. Bye

Red Cross... AIDS?

Lately, there's been a subject I'd like to write of, but it's kinda a personal subject. It's the Red Cross.

It's a great place, you can learn a lot of thing, such as first aids, or HIV/AIDS and many others subjects. And of course you have the oportunity of knowing people from all the country, even other countries. For example, after the earthquake from 28 of febraury came people from Spain, Japan, U.S.A. and others countries, and for one of the capacitations I've gone, the speaker was from Republica Dominicana, and there were also people from Iquique, Chillan, Valparaiso and Traiguen (near from Temuco). That was a capacitation of JSP, or in english, Together We Can, that it's a thematic for teaching about HIV/AIDS, unwanted adolescent pregnancy and other STI to people from ages since 13 to 24 years old.

Well, now I'd like to talk you about this disease called AIDS: It's clear that it's a pandemic disease, and to 2008 there were 33.4 millon people living with the HIV, and 2 millon people living with HIV/AIDS died that year. And there's one thing that it's bothering me, and it's that since the 2004 there hasn't been published new numbers about AIDS in Chile. Also I'd like to dispell myth about AIDS. First: AIDS an HIV aren't the same; HIV is the "Human immunodeficiency virus" so it's a virus; and there is the AIDS, that is the " Acquired immune deficiency syndrome" so we could say that it's the illness. Second: the HIV/AIDS is not an illness that can be acquired by kissing nor hugging, sharing tableware, clothes, bathroom, workplace nor by giving blood. And third: Are a few thing about the virus that have to be said. The virus is present in body fluids like semen and preseminal fluid, vaginal fluid, maternal milk and, of course, the blood. The main ways of transmission are three: Sexual, parenteral and perinatal. The sexual way is, as its name says, for having sex, either heterosexual or homosexual sex. Moreover, by 2008 the 50% of the people infected in the worldwide were women. Parenteral way means by, mostly, sharing needles used by drug users. And perinatal way is from mother to son, either in pregnancy, delivery or brastfeeding.

Well with this I finish my post. Hope you like it and that you keep following me. Byee!!

Music?

Hi, how are you doing lately?

well today I'd like to talk you guys of music. Music is an artistic expression, whose medium is the sound, and for the ancient greek it was the "art of the muses". There are several genres of music, some of them very elaborated, and others as simple as the genre that is causing since a few years ago conmotion in the teenagers and even in some adults, that I have observated that are very moved for this music: Reggeaton.

Well, I think the music have to have a real message, one that move your heart as the Reggae, that is not one of my favorite genres, and have to be very well made, with some effort, preparation and talent, as some kinds of metal that are considered one of the most elaborated music and is for that that have thousand and millions of fans in the whole world.

Ok, ok, I'm not saying that the music I like is the best of the best, but I like music so much that I try to hear every time I can. Obviously I'm hearing now. My very favourite groups are Ska-P, The Offsrpring, Cobra Starship, Streetlight manifesto, and the genre that I like the most is Ska. Ska is a genre that arises in Jamaica, directly from jazz. The jamaican uses his radios to tune in the programation of the USA so they can barely catch up what was broadcasting the radio, at least that says the history. Some of the groups more representative of this genre was Gwen Stefani's "No Doubt", and other less known as "Sublime" and "Rancid", and of course "Ska-P", for those that are spanish speakers, is one of the most recognized in the world!.

well I think that is all, of course I went to the concert that gave Ska-P here in movistar arena last wednesday and it was terrific!. So... nothing else to say and I hope you enjoy, Bye!

dealing with stress at the U

Hi, how are you all been doing?

ok, let's start this post. Stress, it is something very common in this fast days that we all are living in because of the time is never enough for everything we have and we want to do, moreover, i've read that exists something called superstress, that it's exclusively an issue of our times. The makes us move from one place to another many times in one day, it makes us stay up untill 3-4 am or even don't sleep at night studing for the next day, and it makes us, in a huge amount, several bad effects in our organism.

So, how do we deal with it, in an ambient so stressfull as university? well, there exists a few strategies that work for me. One of them is keep doing excersice or sports in your free time. It's a nice way for get rid of all that stress that one is keeping inside and forget for moments about homeworks, studies, subjects, etc., that fills your head; The second strategy is to try to organize yourself the best possible, starting studying with time for big tests and don't postpone works untill last minute. The third is listening music... but here i have some troubles because i get so inmersed in music that i don't know when to stop, so when I stop it I get more stressed out. And the last one is sleeping. Yes, sleeping, because after a good night of dreams get your batteries full and with that you can acomplish your goals for that day.

well that all for this week, hope that you have enjoy. BYEE!

Dispelling "Neuromyths"

Hello again! Today I'll talk about a book called "brain and learning", the chapter called dispelling "Neuromyths", and specialy of the neuromyth that talks about humans just use the ten percent of his brain. This myth is very known for everybody and started when, the text presumed, Albert Einstein said that he just used ten percent of his brain during an interview.

Well, in the text says that, in that time, early investigations supported this idea, but now, recently experiments have demonstrated that even if one functional area of the brain is being preferently used, at the same time others functional areas have activity, as the secondary areas and thats that have relation with posture and movements. Other experiments demosntrated that any area of the brain is inactive at any time, even sleeping, and finally, the fact that any harm in the brain have impact in one or various functions, even in those wounds that aparently doesn't have repercussions. In fact, it actually had repercussions, but the brain adapted himself to attenuate the efects of the wound, and thats because of something called neuroplasticity.

Personally, I think that this article clarifies this myth in a very good way, because if someone comes to ask " it is true that about we use just ten percent of our brains?", this article gave the ways to answer that question in simple words that someone that does not know anything from neuroscieces would understand and accept this.

Well that's all for now, I hope you have enjoyed reading about this interesting subject. Bye for now!

A healthy lifestyle, is it posible? how?

Well, the answer for this question is absolutly yes, of course it's possible. But the thing is that if you don't have already a healthy lifestyle impressed from your parents, it would be very difficult to start a new lifestyle.
For those who think in starting a healthy lifestyle, i think that the hardest part is quitting the junk food and fast food, and slowly introduce to the diet vegetables, fruits and rich in vitamin food. The second part is start doing excersice, even if it is walking for thirty minutes a day almost everyday, you have to start with something, and eventually increase the pace so start trotting a few times in a week. Also, if you have enough time, you can join a team of any sport you like and practice regularly.
In my case, I used to do almost everything I wrote, but this year with the pace of the university i haven't being able to make it, so im feeling less energetic and i can't sleep very well. But at least i try to keep optimistic that someday i will be able to have a healthiest lifestyle than the one i have today.

memories =3!

hello again, it's been a while since my last post, and today I have to talk you about my best childhood memories. The problem is that i don't think i have one specific memory that i can say it's my best one. but making an effort I can told you about one of those good memories...Well the first thing I can remember right now is that when I was 4 years old, I remember, that a girl that I like in pre-kinder kissed me in my cheek after a sort of a play that we made for our parents, and it's also one of my first memories and one of the last before my family and I went to Córdoba, Spain to live there for three years. Well, in Córdoba I had many friends and i felt really good and happy. My best friend Gonzalo and I used to play in the football 7 school team and we were in a league with others teams in Córdoba and our team won that league and that i think is one of the best memoris that i can have of my childhood. We won and they gave us a small cup for the school, one little but very nice trophy of a man playing footbal. When we were in the playground of our school, after our last match(I don't remember if we won, tie or lost that one)  we took the cup and we ran around the soccer field and after that I remember that our mothers gave us snadwiches with ham and took a picture as a team with our coach. I still have that fotography in a frame over my drawers, next to the photos of my girlfriend and my current best friend. Well, I didn't thought that I would come out with that, it was spontaneous i think, well then, thats all. Until the next post!
